Brief summary of the topic discussed

The Democratic Presidential debates have developed two different initiatives for the future of national insurance health coverage in the United States. One of the proposed health insurance initiatives is based on the Affordable Care Act that was passed in 2010 by including further changes such as enabling the U.S. citizens to purchase Medicare coverage voluntary or use other public health option plan. The second proposal is to develop a new, all-governmental health insurance plan i.e. Medicare for all (Graves & Nikpay, 2017). The forum aimed at evaluating major issues and implications faced by U.S. citizens in attempt to choose the best health care coverage path to follow. The forum played critical focus on the outcome of the recent poll from various sources like the New York Times, Commonwealth fund and Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health (The future of national health insurance, 2020). The national experts also engaged in evaluating the economic, practical and political issues surrounding health insurance initiatives in 2020 as well as their potential effects on healthcare for the U.S. citizens.

Analysis of the issue

During the 2012 U.S. presidential election, the issue of health care was beginning to gain insight among the politicians and voters. Since then, the issue of health care has occupied a high rank becoming number one concern particularly among the democratic voters. Some panelist like  Bennie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren strongly support the version of democrats- Medicare for all proposal claiming that the plan would provide government-universal healthcare care to every citizen with no co-payments and non-deductibles (Graves & Nikpay, 2017). On the other hand, there democrats like Peter Buttigie and Joe Biden who are proposing an expensive health plan where citizens are required to purchase their cover plan directly from the government. Another important healthcare coverage plan is that Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren that aims at reducing taxes among the middle class population by enabling them to be included in the Medicare for all. The plan was planned to cost the government a total of $20.5 trillion in a period of 10 years and save the middle class households more than $11 trillion (The future of national health insurance, 2020).  

Implications for health care

In the event that the U.S. citizens are placed in a position to the best healthcare plan, they are left in a dilemma given that they are promised that the three coverage are beneficial given that they are either improving the ACA, Medicare for all and/ or replacing the ACA with a state based health plan. Although the plans are meant to favor the middle class from paying high premiums, the ACA people are more favorable to employer insurance than people who choose Medicare for all. And the Medicare for all people are more worried about at a personal level, their personal health care costs in the future (Graves & Nikpay, 2017). This implies that U.S. citizens who favor Medicare for all are much more critical about the economic system of United States compared to those in favor of ACA who seems to be more positive about the U.S. economic system. Nonetheless, the two versions will lead to significant development in healthcare systems (The future of national health insurance, 2020).
