There is a saying that “people must look back in order to look forward.” As you transition out of this practicum, finish your program, and look forward to your career beyond the program, you must “look back” at all that you have accomplished, taking stock of your skill and confidence levels before moving on.
For this Assignment, you return to your Week 1 Self-Assessment to gain a new perspective on what you need to do moving forward.
To prepare:
- Review your completed Clinical Skills and Procedures Self-Assessment Form from Week 1, as well as the record of procedures you have performed throughout the practicum.
Assignment (1 page)
- Perform a new self-assessment. Rate yourself on clinical skills, based on your experiences during this practicum. Summarize the results.
- Explain which goals you accomplished and which you did not. If you did not achieve a particular goal, explain how you could continue to work on it after you complete your program, as you advance and grow in your career.
Reassessment of Strengths and Opportunities Sample
The processes of self-assessment was important in providing me with the opportunity to review what I have been learning in the nursing course (Brooks, 2018). I was able to also understand the clinical and non-clinical skills, come up with goals and objective that I plan to achieve by the end of the course.
In regard to my individual assessment I can rate myself as a very confident person in what I do. This is because my confidence level when it comes to performing clinical procedures in my practicum has been quite high (Brooks, 2018). I am also very active in nursing activities, which is seen by my self-esteem where selected rates include most confident to only confident where I have been able to perform procedures with little or no supervision.
Among the goals that I can accomplish include performing medical procedures even in emergency situations, I am also able to monitor patients and administer medication with little supervision (Haridas et al., 2017). However, I have not been able to get to the point of making a diagnosis for complex conditions which require that I continue learning the medical procedures from by preceptors.
To ensure that I continue working to achieve what I am looking for in the program (Brooks, 2018). I am also going to take on opportunities of working in the surgery department, working with physician to conduct medical assessment and become more proficient with the different clinical procedures (TIAN & LIU, 2017). It will also be important to perform several virtual examination tests for patients with different condition before I can finally make a diagnosis with my patients I also find it important to continuously grab opportunities to use my current skills, training and knowledge all through the course and apply these skill in nursing practice by working close with my preceptor and practicum supervisor.
