CAUTIs (Catheter-associated urinary tract infections) are the prevalent healthcare-associated infections. They account for more than one million cases in Europe and the United States annually (Theobald et al., 2017).  CAUTIs result in increased hospital stays and other complications like urosepsis, pyelonephritis, and sometimes death. The annual costs for treating CAUTIs in the United States are about $370 million (Theobald et al., 2017). As a preventable condition, healthcare workers should use a combination of interventions to enhance patient safety and healthcare outcomes.
