Identify and describe three actions you can take as an NP to mitigate the social impacts on marginalized women and/or children.

Nurse Practitioners (NPs) working in the healthcare setting can build a trusting relationship with the women in their facility to mitigate the social impacts on this population. The relationship allows the women to engage with the nurses and give key details about their medical condition to help the practitioner fully understand the issue and make an accurate diagnosis. It is also essential that the NPS understand the experiences of these marginalized women and how the social aspects affect their access to quality healthcare (Prodan‐Bhalla & Browne, 2019). The knowledge of lived experiences allows a professional to determine the best way to approach a health issue with the marginalized group, give a proper diagnosis, and determine ways to guarantee safety and quality care for the group. Lastly, NPs can mitigate women's social issues by treating them with respect and making them feel part of the egalitarian community. This gives the women courage to come to the facility for their appointments and to seek medical services whenever necessary.

Discuss the role of federal, state, and local health policy in marginalizing women, children, and childbearing families.

Federal policy can be tailored to ensure adequate financing for the health industry and establish legislation and national strategies for the health industry. The federal policies are meant to ensure a shared goal within the country's health sector and adequate financing to cater to the needs of the citizens, especially the marginalized population. State policy can be set to promote inclusivity and equity across the health sector in the state. These laws are especially critical as they promote an environment where marginalized communities are respected, appreciated, and afforded safe and quality care across the country. The state policy can ensure the facilities across the state are coupled with practitioners who respect diversity and appreciate the needs of minority groups. The local health policy can be tailored to ensure the needs of the marginalized women in the local region are met. The local authorities interact more with the marginalized group and know the issues affecting their health outcomes. Hence, the administrators can use the

knowledge of these issues to tailor policies and support adequate health services for the population.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is one policy that affects marginalized groups. The policy was established in 2010 by the Obama Administration to allow access to safe and quality health for the uninsured population. The policy identified the issues affecting access to care for the marginalized population and was crafted to ensure these barriers are eliminated. The law was established to make health insurance affordable to more people and provide consumers with subsidies that reduce the costs for households with incomes between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level (McIntyre & Song, 2019). It is also meant to expand the Medicaid program to cover every adult with low income and support the innovative medical care delivery methods crafted to reduce healthcare costs. The Obama administration identified how a huge population, especially the marginalized populations, has challenges accessing premium health services. The challenge was mainly due to low income, poverty, and high healthcare costs across the country.

Discuss how the selected policy impacts marginalized groups either positively or negatively

Women from low-income families across all races have similar health needs. The act ensures women are not charged high premiums due to their gender. Insurance companies have a discriminatory gender rating that costs women a lot of money every year. The ACA offers protection from being denied coverage based on any pre-existing conditions. It also eliminates the predatory policies that allowed insurers to exploit women who needed the care. This act ensures that the insurers are prevented from imposing lifetime dollar value caps on the coverage and placing the annual value cap on the essential benefits. Hence, there has been an increase in the number of marginalized women who access health services. The number has doubled since the population can now access safe and quality care services at affordable costs and access medication at affordable rates across the country.
