Why Did I Choose To Be A Dentist?
I got an interest in dentistry when I visited a dentist several times for correction of my misaligned teeth. I found them embarrassing since my childhood until I visited my current dentist to inquire if there was a way to correct them. To my surprise, the answer was affirmative and I decided to give it a try. I now have a warm smile and confident of my new look. I had much interest in medicine since my childhood days, and a visit to the dentist revealed that I could give a smile and self-confidence to individuals by improving the look on their teeth.
I also saw others who came to the clinic with pain and swollen gums because of a toothache. Tooth pain is terrible, but it was amazing how the dentist was able to calm them down and relieve their pain. From that time, I studied hard in the subjects that will qualify me for admission to medical school. As you will see in my transcripts, I passed through all of them.
My Experience in Dental Practice
When I completed high school, my cousin and close friend graduated from the university with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree. Dentistry became even more appealing that I began working as a volunteer during my free time at the clinic where she worked. I have been volunteering as I waited the application time and during the time, I have learned much about what it entails to be a successful dentist.
I have seen the way dentists interact with patients, the different roles they perform and how they deal with situations such as arranging appointments or calling technicians to ensure there is enough stock of dentures.
I always find great pleasure when I accompany one of the dentists to visit Mr. and Mrs. Mark, two elderly patients who are unable to walk due to old age and arthritis. I help the dentist in checking their teeth which are more convenient than having someone wheel them to the clinic.
