How do tension and stress affect the body?

How do tension and stress affect the body?

Tension and stress develop from a number of sources from home to the office and today’s specialty; social media. The tension between colleagues over a shared project and stress easily build with a micromanaging boss on your neck. A parent with a sick child cannot concentrate at the office. They are worried and stressed. The hospital bills are an additional stress provider on top of school loans, utility bills and you have not even thought about your daily needs. Even without a sick relative, the cost of living has become so high you can afford to only take care of yourself and buy groceries for the week. Adding dependents to your list is asking for trouble.

However, what do you do when you have no choice. As a lone breadwinner or the family’s success, it's inevitable to want and need to help out around the home. Although the financial crisis is a major contribution to tension and stress, relationships can be the worst source of stress. Unstable relationships, fake friendships, and poor working relationships also make migraines a constant problem. Stress has always been bad for the body and it shows in different ways.

Weight Loss

For some people, stress becomes evident when they start tightening the belt, literally. They lose weight from the fact that they have lost their appetite. Some people avoid eating when they are stressed. They have no appetite for food or any social activities. They remain stuck in their heads thinking about their problems day and night. This means that they don’t get a break from whatever is plaguing them.

Hair Loss

Hair loss is another side effect of severe stress. It does not happen to everyone but it may be a result of stress being experienced. As individuals are different, one may not lose weight and instead loose hair, or lose both.

Anger

Being stressed and being in a constant high-tension environment makes someone feel frustrated and over time they have pent up feelings of anger. Bottled feelings occur when the individual tries to avoid a situation, instead of addressing the issue causing them anxiety. This results in a short-tempered person. They are easily put in a bad mood because of the stress they are experiencing and when they experience some difficulty they get defensive. They also appear to be moody all the time.

Depression

Too much stress and without a proper outlet like therapy or an activity to channel it like exercise can lead to depression. Also, when we continue to indulge in the source of our stress like a bad job or engaging in a stressful relationship, it does not help us to deal with the stress we are experiencing. It instead helps to talk to someone to help assess your situation, or simply share how you are feeling. It helps to unload a burden and share it with a trusted friend or family member. It makes it easier to bare and the feeling of being alone in a hard situation diminishes.

Heart risk

For people diagnosed with high blood pressure, it is already unhealthy to harbor stress because it spikes their blood pressure. However, a consistent and ongoing stressful activity puts the individual at risk of elevated stress hormones which can increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. For sickly individuals, it is especially important to avoid stress because a stroke or heart attack can cause irreparable damage to recover from.

Headaches and Migraines

This is another symptom of high stress and tension. The feeling of a migraine coming on is frequent for people who are often involved in high-stress activities. It becomes obvious even when they are experiencing headaches from stress instead of illness. For others who are particularly sensitive, vomiting and diarrhea are another symptoms of stress. The feeling of nausea or dizziness is not uncommon when you feel particularly stressed.

Should the United States put more restrictions on gun ownership and use?

Should the United States put more restrictions on gun ownership and use?

The gun laws in America is something that has been condemned globally. In America, mass shootings have become a terror attack in itself. Young children in schools, malls, and even cafes have been losing their lives senselessly due to the mass shootings. The shootings that have taken place in an Orlando nightclub, in Las Vegas and even in the church shows that some of these shootings are motivated by marginalized hatred while others prey on innocent individuals that have no role to play in the shooter’s life.

More often than not, the shooters claim to be mentally unstable to escape the full force of the law. Leaving the victims families with a feeling of injustice due to some of the lenient judgments from the courts and definitely a leniency when it comes to changing the law to favor those who have been wronged by imposing gun control.

The march for our lives movement that took place earlier this year has done nothing to soften the hearts of Congress and other authorities who have the power to control gun ownership. Despite extensive media coverage on international and local news channels about how the American society feels concerning gun ownership, there have not been any changes thus far on ownership.

The implementation of background checks of individuals who want to purchase a gun has proven to be defective. Some of the people behind the mass shootings are those who previously underwent background checks and still received the go-ahead to buy a gun. In many instances, the mass shooters are often loners who have a limited social life and have gone ahead to ‘punish’others through demented attacks.

Gun control should definitely be implemented to curb the loss of lives from frequent mass shootings in public places. These shootings have instilled fear in both children and parents when making the decision to enroll their children in school. This is why the number of parents opting to homeschool is increasing, as parents opt for safer options to ensure their children’s safety and education. Additionally, the regulations on when guns can be used should be outlined for the public.

People brandish their weapons languish and at the slightest inconvenience. For example, an angry driver can pull out a gun on another driver from road rage. An argument or brawl can also ensue into a fatal altercation when one or both the persons involved opt for a more violent way of settling their disagreements. It is dangerous when people do not know or follow the law. This gives them the chance to act rogue by taking matters into their own hands to enforce ‘justice’ on another citizen unwarranted.

Gun laws in the US are established in a number of stated and also by federal statutes. They incorporate how they are regulated. From the way they are manufactured to the trade, possession of a weapon, transferring it to another individual and record keeping. The transportation and destruction of firearms are also forming part of the laws, as well as ammunition for the weapons and the firearm accessories. Some states only require a license to carry for concealed firearms while others demonstrate the need for a license for both the firearms and concealed weapons.

Some states also have preemption on their gun laws, which means only those states alone can legally regulate firearms. This makes it more difficult to put restrictions on gun ownership as it comes down to the state laws. Automatic firearms such as machine guns, short barreled shotguns, and short barreled rifles are among the guns under this preemptive law. However, some states and localities place additional restrictions on such weapons.

Laws vary from state to state, making it difficult to determine a national law on all the guns especially with bodies for pro-gun ownership irrespective of the sometimes fatal shootouts and accidents that take place by irresponsible individuals.

Should juveniles be sentenced to life in prison?

Should juveniles be sentenced to life in prison?

There are some unruly youngsters today who have made poor choices in their lives. Some out of circumstance, out of consequence and some by choice. Often young people with a criminal history also have a troubled background. If they are found guilty of wrongdoing, then those in question should be given the subsequent judgment aligned with their crimes considering their age. Young people with a criminal history should be given the chance for rehabilitation.

It is not to say that their characters will never change. Often times, juveniles lack a mentor figure, guardian or good parenting to guide them while young. When left to their own devices they are often misled and taken advantage of by other ill-meaning adults or peers who have bad intentions. Whatever the case, they should be given the chance of changing and refining their characters. This can be done through therapy and counseling to help them move on from traumas, and try to change their behavior by expressing remorse and committing to rehabilitative activities.

Juveniles should not be sentenced to life in prison. The act itself is tantamount to sentencing a child or youth to a worthless life. A life that does not progress outside of the walls of a prison under lock and key, despite a change in behavior, perspective or even good behavior. It denies them a right to freedoms they are rightfully allowed to have after serving a certain amount of time, either through probation, community service or jail time.

Sentencing a juvenile to life in prison is equivalent to purposefully ensuring they do not move on from their mistakes and live to pay for them until their deathbeds. In the cases where they have committed severe criminal acts, then both judge and jury can make the decision on how to best proceed through a sentence that can accommodate their wrongdoing. However, in the case for petty crimes like stealing snacks from a shop, or clothes from a store; in the event that no human being has been physically injured then I believe the law should not judge them so harshly but let it be a learning lesson to them through a lighter sentence.

It is clear juvenile delinquency can be a problem with misguided teenagers, however, more should be done to rehabilitate than punish. There are several who are already under influence from drugs or just acting out of peer pressure to be accepted by gangs and friends. Repeat offenses can be a problem and such individuals do make it hard to give them a second or third chance. Alternatively, youngsters who lack the support of a family are put into foster care to help them gain some stability.

It is not in all cases that foster homes prove to be a bad experience. Some do make friends eventually associate their new friends as family members if they are provided with the kind of emotional security they need. Some of the juveniles need to be re-enrolled in school to help them take control of their lives, under a watchful eye. There are remedies that can be put in place instead of detention camps and juvenile court to deal with these young individuals.

A delinquent can also be someone who has failed to pay their credit card loans. This may be as a result of unforeseen circumstances, like losing a job or subsequent poverty from an emergency that needed to be taken care of before paying off credit card debt. This, therefore, emphasizes how juveniles should be dealt with carefully based on their individual wrongdoing, rather than by grouping them together.

It is also better for law enforcement to take it upon themselves to release petty crime offenders to decongest prisons and to rehabilitate the young men and women who have been imprisoned. This will allow them to take the necessary steps to reclaim their lives.

Can miscarriages be prevented with lifestyle changes?

Can miscarriages be prevented with lifestyle changes?

A miscarriage is one of the worst experiences an expectant mother can have. The joy of knowing you will be a mother is the stuff of dreams for many couples. Some couples struggle with infertility and opt for more technology-enhanced ways of getting pregnant or even adopting as a solution to have a family of their own. A miscarriage is an emotionally strenuous experience for any couple. There are feelings of loss and guilt. Sometimes the mother blames herself, thinking she could have done more to carry her pregnancy to full term. Sometimes, it is a biological issue that cannot be addressed head-on but can be managed to help the woman carry the pregnancy to full term. Either way, it is a stressful experience.

The cause of a miscarriage is often the result of a weak cervix. The weakness of the cervix is called an incompetent cervix, which cannot hold the pregnancy hence a miscarriage. A miscarriage that happens due to an incompetent cervix takes place in the second trimester. This is after or during the period of four to six months. In some cases, there are symptoms before a miscarriage happens which is caused by cervical insufficiency.

Some women do not experience any symptoms prior to a miscarriage, but bleeding is a cautionary sign that needs immediate attention. Mild to severe cramps is also a cause for medical attention as well as pain in your back and abdomen. Additionally, excessive vomiting can be linked to a miscarriage.

Unfortunately, miscarriages happen more often than not, with an average of one pregnancy out of five ending in a miscarriage. Miscarriages cannot be prevented. Other than having a weak cervix, it is also caused by a chromosomal abnormality in the development of the fetus which then results in a miscarriage. It is often heartbreaking and mothers need a lot of support, from friends, family and sometimes professionally. This is to prevent mothers or the couple from falling into depression or bearing feelings of guilt and blame.

To avoid a miscarriage altogether, it is best to maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout your pregnancy. Mothers who are breastfeeding should also consider adopting a healthy lifestyle after birth to ensure their children are safe and gain full nutritional value from the mother’s milk. To ensure that you are not in danger of having a miscarriage, pregnant women should visit a gynecologist to check the cervical area and uterus to ensure the pregnancy is going well. At this time, they will also advise on supplements to take and foods to avoid for a healthy pregnancy.

A woman who is planning for a pregnancy should visit the gynecologist to assess the strength of her uterus and cervix to be able to carry the baby to full term. Additionally, a well-balanced diet will go a long way to strengthen both mother and baby. Exercise should also be done in moderation, under the instructions of your doctor to avoid any unnecessary strain that could harm the pregnancy. As the pregnancy progresses, the strenuous movement should be kept to a minimum. This includes work long and late hours or frequent travel that could stress the body.

A stressful environment can also lead to a miscarriage. If a mother is working in an area that causes her to feel stressed frequently, or lives in such an environment; it could be detrimental to her health and that of the baby’s. If you have a regular habit of eating sugary foods and junk, your diet has to change to avoid acquiring diabetes during pregnancy. It is important to have your vitals checked for your blood sugar to make sure it is within the safe levels. Additionally, if you already have diabetes it is important to have it under control.

Poor habits like drinking too much alcohol, smoking and doing drugs can lead to a miscarriage and need to be stopped immediately. Therefore, it is safe to say that a poor lifestyle can be a contributing factor among other things when it comes to a miscarriage.

How important is sleep to health?

How important is sleep to health?

Early to bed and early to rising, makes a man healthy and wealthy and wise. These are the words to a children’s song to encourage them to sleep earlier for better health and a more productive day the next day. Sleep is important. It is important for rejuvenation of the body through rest. The body can repair itself after a long day, and your mind can settle into the unconscious for a while and get ready to conquer another day.

Stress Manager

There are so many advantages to sleeping well within the recommended hours and getting enough rest. The first one is that it reduces stress. When you get a nap and some well-deserved peace, on waking up you feel clearer and ready to manage your stress in a healthy way. For some people, sleep is the way they deal with stress. They take a timeout and wake up ready to handle the pressure in a good way. Whether it’s a work deadline or an unhealthy relationship. It could even be illness, sleep helps you to relax and go about your day more productively.

Better Health

In the same way, sleep helps deal with stress, it can also manage stress-related side effects. One example is high blood pressure. People with this condition are prone to have raised levels of blood pressure when they are stressed. During such times, it is better to close your eyes and rest to avoid any more health problems ensuing. Taking a break is better when things become overwhelming.

Good mood

Waking up angry and tired is not because you had a bad dream necessarily. It is mostly because you did not get enough sleep. When you wake up tired, you tend to be shorter tempered with people for speaking loudly or even demanding things from you in the office. If you have a high-stress job, or active family life sleep could be the one time and place to have solitude and complete rest. Lack of it results in feelings of frustrations and anger towards those who have no fault and no part to play in the fact that you are sleep-deprived.

Creativity

Sleep improves your creativity. Those dreams are proof of an incredible imagination. Sleep gives the physical body a break and mentally the unconscious can soar off and restructure and reorganize itself for creative work. It explains why after sleep, problems seem less complex and ideas flow freely. Researchers at Harvard and Boston College have found that after sleep emotional components are stronger which compliments the creative process.

Physical fitness

Longer hours of sleep have resulted in improved stamina, not just for your daily activities but also for physical activity. This includes exercise and sporting activities. For athletes, this translates into longer playing time with more stamina and less daytime fatigue. The secret to the repeated cramps or feelings of nausea due to overworking your body could just be sleep. Not another round of medication or supplements, instead just adopt an early to bed, early to rise schedule.

Improved academic performance

For children who did not perform well in school, they have problems paying attention and learning in the classroom. Research has shown that children who suffer from insomnia, sleep apnea and other types of interrupted breathing at night suffer in class. Further information indicates that sacrificing sleep to meet deadlines, as adults often do leads to a clear impairment for learning and ultimately performance. Therefore, if the children and adults could both sleep well through the night, they would do better in their respective areas.

Healthy weight

Often times people forget that sleep plays a role in maintaining a healthy weight. This is because sleep and weight are controlled by the same sectors of the brain, and when we feel sleepy the same hormones drive our appetite. Sleeping early means you spend less time thinking about your cravings and binge eating. In addition, dieters in a recent study said they felt more hungry when they got less sleep.
