Is a diploma in nursing still relevant in the US?
The 2020 BSN recommendation is creating an impression that by the years 2020, no one will hire a nurse without Bachelor of Science Nursing degree hence diplomas will be obsolete. The recommendation is not a law but a goal by Institute of Medicine with its call for raising figures of nurses holding degrees to 80%.
A Diploma in Nursing is still in existence just a few years to 2020 and trainees still get employment opportunities.Hospital-based nursing schools award diplomas in nursing to their students. The students like their degree counterparts must take an NCLEX-RN exam and apply for their licensure before they start practicing.
